Howbury School Lagos

May 2022 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

AMAYzing, remarkable, Exceptional, awesome are just a few words to describe the month of May for us.

Being the final term of the session, pupils have been thoroughly engaged in their studies, striving towards a successful completion of the term.

Howbury pupil emerges Regional Winner of Collins Big Cat Writing Competition 2022:

Put together annually by Collins International, the Collins Big Cat Writing Competition is a global writing challenge that promotes creative writing, voracious reading and encourages students to write for pleasure. The theme for this year's contest is "What does home mean to you" It was a rigorous process for the pupils getting their entries into the contest.

We are exceptionally elated as our pupil; Analisa Ukpaka-Year 6, has emerged the Regional Winner for the age 8-11 category. Congratulations Champion, we are confident in your abilities.

One of the Judges wrote:

 " Congratulations, Analisa!

Your response to the brief was thoughtful, sensitive and witty. I loved the way you wove funny lines like “it is not always restricted to wrestling” into an honest, personal expression of what home means to you"

With this win, her entry has qualified for the final stage to be an overall winner of the contest.

Challengers Series

In fulfilment of Howbury School's commitment to give back to the community, the Challengers Series was birthed two years ago. Open to both Howbury and non Howbury students, the Challengers Series enlightens pupils on the basics of coding and robotics.

Year 6 Parents Transition Workshop:

The Transition Workshop provides an avenue for parents of graduating pupils to get first hand information about life after Primary School, Secondary School life and expectations. Additionally, parents are introduced to Howbury Secondary School Program, particularly the Year 7 Class.

Just Girls
The annual Just Girls has been established to equip our girls with requisite information and guidance they will require in their growth process.
All clad in pink and white outfits, the girls had a memorable time listening to Mrs. Aiyelero and Mrs. Nzimiro as they gave varying perspectives to the theme of Just Girls 2022 " Choices and Consequences"

An Evening With New Parents:

As is customary, we offered a warm welcome to families who joined (and rejoined) the Howbury family this term. Our team members took turns to highlight school values, culture, policies and expectations. There was a demonstration of what typical English and Maths classes are in Howbury School. Once again, we warmly welcome all new families to the Howbury community.

Scratch Week 2022:

Howbury students joined in the global annual celebration of Scratch week. It was a week-long celebration packed full with activities to sensitise the students about scratch, enhance their logical thinking and problem solving skills.

We heartily congratulate winners of the Scratch challenge:

Fun Day 2022

Our very first Fun Day post Covid.

It was glitz, excitement, humour, exhilaration, entertainment all in one package.

We at Howbury School would like to express our deep gratitude to all parents for the unflinching support once again demonstrated in making the Fun Day successful. Particularly, we applaud the Planning Committee for leaving no stone unturned in the planning and execution of this event.

Making the Half Term Break count

The Half term break elicits varying emotions for parents. For some it is a relief from the early morning rush for school prep and runs, and a great time to spend quality time with the children. Another group of parents dread this period; the thought of keeping up with the children breeds anxiety as they struggle to meet up with the many demands the children will have.
