November 2022 Newsletter

Welcome to the November edition of our monthly Newsletter.
It feels really great to know the year which began just like yesterday is about to wind down.

Amidst the teaching and learning, there have been other activities gracing the month, please have a great read.

November highlights:

Anti bullying week
Reach out was the theme of this year’s Anti Bullying week which was held from November 14th to 18th. The global week-long activities commenced with an Anti Bullying themed assembly on Monday to reiterate the theme of the celebration.

Over the week, students had drama skits, anti bullying walks, recitals and anti bullying themed songs to further enlighten them on how not to be a bully, how to identify a bully, actions to take if bullied and how to reach out if you or someone around you is being bullied.

Charity Fundraising for iLift Foundation

The flagship Charity Day was held on Thursday, November 10th, 2022. We sincerely appreciate all parents for the selfless donations towards this initiative, we are indeed elated at your commitment towards this cause. After the Charity Day, funds were presented to iLift Foundation, they have expressed utmost gratitude to the Howbury Community for lending a hand in this quest to make our world a better place to live in.

Spelling Bee
The robust reading culture at Howbury School has enabled pupils to have a rich repertoire of vocabulary, word spelling has become part of daily learning. Beyond these, Spelling Bees enable children to develop self confidence, communication skills and the tenacity to thrive under pressure. The Primary Phase had her Spelling Bee Contest where pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 competed intensely for the Term's Spelling Champion. Our hearty congratulations to Iremide Famofo who emerged as the Spelling Champion for Term 1.

Examination preparation tips
As we get into the examination season, we trust these tips will help you in offering support for your child.

  • Organise a space for study
  • Create a study schedule

  • Help them to create study goals

  • Encourage them to take time out for regular breaks

  • Ask your child how they are feeling about the exam

  • Encourage them to go to bed early

  • Give them a good breakfast

  • Double- check their school supplies; pencils, pens, sharpeners, erasers, rulers and more.

  • Ensure they are familiar with the google classroom login details

  • Ensure they arrive school on time

  • Ultimately, ask them how the exams went, help them understand that exams do not totally define their abilities. Applaud their efforts and cheer them on to put in more effort.

Here’s wishing all our students outstanding success in their examinations.

Thank you.
