Academic Pathways at Howbury Secondary School

The Cambridge Pathway

The Cambridge Pathway provides a clear, structured progression from Year 7 to A Levels, culminating in globally recognized qualifications.

  • Years 7 to 9 (Key Stage 3):
    Students build a strong foundation in core and elective subjects. In Year 9, students take the Cambridge Checkpoint Exams in EnglishMathematics, and Science. Additionally, they must pass an end-of-Key Stage 3 (KS3) exam that assesses their understanding across all subjects, ensuring readiness for the next phase.

  • Years 10 to 11 (IGCSE):
    Students select a combination of core and elective subjects tailored to their interests and career aspirations.

    • Core Subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and ICT.
    • Electives: Business Studies, Geography, History, French, and Indigenous Languages (Yoruba/Igbo).

    At the end of Year 11, students earn the IGCSE qualification, recognized by top universities worldwide.

  • Years 12 to 13 (A Levels):
